A place of gathering, viewing, and spectacle, the rooftop terrace rises above the ferries and terminal bustle below. It draws on centuries of   Zanzibar's maritime life, where fishing, trade, and public gathering shaped the Swahili coast, turning a place of transit into a civic destination overlooking the harbor. 

The experience is anchored by the baraza, a stone bench long used for gathering, conversation, and quiet viewing, reimagined here as stepped bleacher that orients visitors toward the water. Around this social core, the enclosure breathes with the rhythms of the coast - a perforated, open-air façade, woven in the pattern of madaraja fishing traps, filters daylight into shifting patterns, frames the panoramic ocean view, and gives the building a distinct and rooted presence along the waterfront. Above, sail-like canopies, inspired by the dhow boats that have navigated local waters for centuries, temper the equatorial sun. Below, bougainvillea trellises rise from the structural grid into vibrant canopies, softening the vast space into a human-scaled landscape. The open plan gives the terrace flexibility, accommodating everyday gatherings, performances, and private celebrations in turn. 

As evening falls, the façade glows like a lantern along the shoreline, spilling light and life into the dusk, drawing people to the landmark long after the last ferry departs.
